Peter Ohlsson

LULEÅ, SWEDEN

Peter is born and raised in the northern tip of Sweden. He lives in Luleå which is a good starting point from where he has many of Norrland's finest rivers within a few hours reach. Peter has been fishing with fly rod and tied flies for over 35 years. He’s an all-rounder when it comes to fishing but salmon, and sea trout fishing as well as the night fishing after big brown trout is what he likes the most.

The fishing for salmon and trout has a short but intense season in ‘scandi-land’ and to keep the hobby and interest alive throughout the year, fly tying has become an equally important part as the actual fishing. Peter ties at least a couple of flies every day and tries to learn different styles and techniques to become an as versatile and creative fly tier as possible. He appreciates to become a part of a group of people who safeguard natural values and take a great distance from the ongoing exploitation of the Atlantic salmon biotopes that the Norwegian aquaculture industry stands for. Peter arrange fly auctions and raise funds to support the organization Östersjölaxälvar I Samverkan, that is working to restore the Baltic salmon rivers.

As a fly tier he likes to tie advanced flies with body hackles and many details and different materials. Of course, he fishes with them, but his main fishing is mostly done with much simpler patterns. He often ties these simple patterns on cones, but now to get a bit of weight the new TTT tubes are new favourites. Peter mainly fishes in large rivers, preferably in high water conditions, and it will be the most heavily weighted flies and patterns that are most useful in Norrland and the Norwegian Nordlands rivers. The rivers he fishes most and likes the best are his home rivers in Västerbotten, Sweden and the Norwegian rivers Beiarn and Saltdalselva.
