WILD SALMON SERIES

For Free Rivers & Wild Fish

The Wild Salmon Series of rods marks the next step in our commitment to wild Atlantic salmon — an initiative that began with the WSS reels and now continues with one of the most exclusive rod series ever produced. Created to generate a major donation for conservation work in the UK, each rod represents a direct contribution to restoring the rivers where modern salmon fly fishing was born. The series is defined by deep burnt-bronze blanks, a unique salmon-scale reel seat, and handcrafted embossed leather rod tubes — details that give the rods a refined, timeless identity. Built on updated SALAR S4 technology, they offer a smooth, progressive action in lightweight travel formats ready for any destination. Limited, numbered, and produced in only 25 full series, these rods stand as both exceptional fishing tools and a statement of support for the future of wild salmon.

A refined evolution of traditional salmon rod ergonomics, the WSS handle pairs a short cigar-shaped cork grip with a dark burgundy high-tech foam butt. This combination offers superb control, a relaxed wrist angle, and a balanced feel throughout long days of fishing. Made from the highest-grade cork available, it delivers exceptional durability and the warm, confident grip experienced anglers appreciate.

The Wild Salmon Series features a unique reel seat with a salmon scale pattern — a subtle signature connecting each rod to the species it is created to protect. Machined with precision and finished in a silvery metallic tone, the seat offers both exceptional durability and a distinctive visual identity. It serves as a reminder, every time you mount a reel, of the wild fish these rods are built to honour.

The deep burnt-bronze blank sets the visual tone of the entire series — understated and elegant. Each rod carries its WSS identity graphic and an individually numbered marking (1–25), turning every piece into a collectible with its own story. These details are not just cosmetic; they make each rod recognisable as part of a limited, once-only production.

The Wild Salmon Series rods complete the vision that began with the WSS reels. Together they form a unified set — designed, numbered, and built with the same dedication to purpose and craft. Each element reflects our commitment to creating equipment that not only performs flawlessly but also contributes directly to the protection of wild salmon. Two series, one mission — to honour the fish that define our passion.

Every Wild Salmon Series rod comes in a handcrafted, embossed leather tube designed exclusively for this project. Built from thick, durable buffalo leather and fitted with a shoulder strap, the tube combines classic craftsmanship with practical protection. It elevates the rod into a complete, heirloom-level package — functional for travel, beautiful to display, and unmistakably WSS.

RESTORING WILD SALMON WITH
THE ATLANTIC SALMON TRUST

The SALAR Wild Salmon Series is a continuation of our long-term commitment to protecting wild Atlantic salmon. With this limited-edition rod series, Frödinflies will donate €50.000 (approx. 550.000 SEK) to the Atlantic Salmon Trust, dedicated to restoring wild salmon across the United Kingdom. The contribution will be earmarked for science-led projects and on-the-ground actions that directly improve survival — from catchment restoration to tackling key pressures in rivers, coastal waters, and the open sea.

As a small, independent company, this is another substantial commitment. But responsibility sits with us all. We hope the Wild Salmon Series keep inspiring others in the tackle industry to join the effort and help secure a future where wild Atlantic salmon still return to their rivers — strong, resilient, and in ever-increasing numbers.

The Atlantic Salmon Trust

Wild Atlantic salmon are in crisis. In Great Britain, they are classified by the International Union for the Council of Nature as ‘Endangered’ and declining. Wild Atlantic salmon are not only an indicator of the health of rivers and seas, but are also a vital part of communities, cultures, and the rural economy across the United Kingdom.

The Atlantic Salmon Trust’s mission is to restore them and the environments they depend on. The pressures on wild salmon in the United Kingdom can and must be tackled. These include impacts in rivers, coastal waters and the high seas, all of which are amplified through climate change and biodiversity loss.

What The Atlantic Salmon Trust does: Science into Action

The Trust is first and foremost based on evidence and seeks to fill knowledge gaps about what is causing wild salmon to decline. The Trust publishes its findings in peer-reviewed scientific literature for maximum impact so that the facts can be established. Recent projects have included large-scale smolt tracking work across 22 UK rivers and as far as 300 km into the open sea.

  • The Trust runs a growing network of ‘Core Rivers’ in the United Kingdom with local partners. These Core Rivers are first and foremost about catchment scale restoration, underpinned by sound science and highly monitored so that we can track what works best for wild salmon in this rapidly changing world.

  • The Core Rivers Programme helps to scale up action through informing a wider network of catchment restoration partnerships across the UK to achieve wild salmon recovery at a watershed scale. The Trust is currently working with partners on the Aberdeenshire Dee (Save the Spring, 1.300 km2) to understand and restore upland habitat vital for spring salmon, on the Outer Hebrides (Linking the Lochs 140 km2) ) to implement restoration across the Lewis peatlands and Test & Itchen chalk streams in Hampshire (Project White Hart, 1.760 km2) to prevent salmon from going extinct in two iconic chalkstreams.

  • Demonstrates environmental leadership, advocating for high level policy and regulatory change for wild salmon. Delivers international conferences (Wild Salmon Connections, 2025), ensuring wild Atlantic salmon have a strong consistent voice in national and international policy.

This donation will support the work of the Atlantic Salmon Trust in two key areas:

  • It will contribute to the advancement and delivery of on-the-ground restoration work through the Trust’s network of catchment restoration partnerships. Each year the Trust will add further landscape scale projects in the region of 1.500 km2 to its portfolio of projects, supporting local partners to deliver the Cold, Clean, Water that salmon desperately need to thrive, and at the scale required.

  • It will support the Trust’s work to push governments to robustly improve and regulate activities that harm wild Atlantic salmon, such as open pen aquaculture and barriers to migration in the UK or pollution. We will always be guided by what is best for salmon and will encourage national and international partners to adopt a similar view to get effective policy change. Specifically we will work with our national and international partners to produce definitive statements on the five highest impacts on wild salmon each year, such as our own position on open pen aquaculture.

This significant contribution enables The Atlantic Salmon Trust to accelerate its work and make progress towards its long-term goal: Halting the decline in wild Atlantic salmon across its range and increasing numbers in the catchments it calls home.
