This weeks TBT winner!
I was a young crazy salmon angler. The year was 1984. I was guiding on Gaulas best beats. We were a gang of young hungry salmon fishermen, most of us ended up with fishing as a job. It was my good friend Håkan Norling, Roland Holmberg, Johan Abelsson, Jonas Hammarstet and a few more.
During these years I had the pleasure to fish with quite a few of the big names in the buisness. I met and fished with writer Ernie Schweibert, reel maker Stan Bogdan, tarpon hero Billy Pate, Steelhead guru Russ Chatham, editor John Randolph and many more. But the high lite of my guiding was the years with Joan and Lee Wulff. My biggest hero and for me the biggest name in the salmon world of all times was Lee Wulff. I have many good memories and still gain from the tricks he taught me on the Gaula, now 31 years ago.
So the right answer is a curly haired me and my all time hero Lee Wulff. The year was 1984 and the photo was from Bones Beat on the Norwegian river Gaula. This day Lee, on a Surface Stone fly caught what I think was the first dry fly salmon in Norwegian salmon history – a big day for a young gillie!
AND THE WINNER IS... EIVIND HAGEN. He was the only one who got all the facts right, well done!!! Since Lee Wulff was one of the men who started fishing with dry flies, we think the perfect prize is three of our best dry flies. Send us your adress Eivind and the flies will be with you soon!
