Is the fly important?

Micke made a cool film from the Morrum river in the spring about the importance of the fly. He asked a quite a few salmon fishers what they thought about this, and the answers were quite mixed. Here are some deeper thoughts on this: maybe the right fly is the one that fools a salmon once in a while, but also tricks the angler to keep the fly in the water long enough for that to happen. It is important to use a fly, which - if it doesn’t make you believe in every cast and swing - at least keeps you from losing faith. And enables you to present the fly correctly, because that is probably the most important of all - and you can’t properly present something you don’t believe in.
