Beyond the Closures – A Detour to Beiarn River
Fishing a new salmon river is always special—sharing the experience with close friends makes it unforgettable. In the summer of 2024, Norwegian authorities made a widely criticised decision: shutting down 33 rivers to anglers, without taking real action against open pen salmon farming—the leading cause of the dramatic decline in wild fish returns. Our week in Trøndelag was cancelled, so we packed up and drove more than 1,000 km north to the Beiarn River. What followed was a week of summer sun, cold beers—and yes, a few clean wild fish willing to take our flies.
