Skagit lines for high water levels

Those of you going fishing in the north will know that rivers are high and relatively cold at the moment. Tradition in Europe dictates full sinking lines ’Scandi style’ for these conditions, but perhaps this could be the occasion to try out Skagit lines and style. With a 15 foot T18 tip you’ll move down deep in the water column, and the very short and heavy Skagit shooting heads are great for punching the line out with big and heavy flies with a Snap C cast or similar! Don’t be deterred by the floating head; salmon will often hold right where the heavy current looses momentum in high water conditions. With this setup you will get down to the salmon, where the pressure from the current is less on the fly line. Tight lines!
